Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in pharmacy operations, with specialized experience in LTC (Long-Term Care) and critical care settings. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient care by supporting pharmacists in medication preparation, dispensing, and regulatory compliance within a hospital or clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, including sterile IV admixture procedures and IV infusion preparation, ensuring strict aseptic techniques.
- Manage medication inventory, including ordering, stocking, and verifying stock levels to maintain optimal supply for patient care.
- Accurately process medication intake and documentation in accordance with pharmaceutical regulatory compliance standards.
- Support patient service activities by providing medication information and addressing basic inquiries under pharmacist supervision.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with state healthcare regulations, drug regulation policies, and safety protocols.
- Maintain a sterile environment through aseptic techniques during IV compounding and sterile IV admixture procedures.
- Participate in hospital-based acute care activities, supporting clinical pharmacy services for critically ill patients requiring complex medication management.
- Assist in training new staff or interns on pharmacy technician responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of medication safety and legal compliance.
Skills
- Proven experience working as a pharmacy technician within LTC or hospital settings, with a strong understanding of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated expertise in IV infusion preparation, sterile compounding, and aseptic technique procedures.
- Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws governing medication dispensing and pharmacy practice standards.
- Experience with pharmaceutical regulatory compliance and drug regulation policies to ensure safe medication handling.
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively about medication administration and care plans.
- Critical care experience or acute care background is highly desirable for supporting complex patient needs.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required to ensure readiness for emergency situations involving patient care.
