Summary
Criminal defense law firm seeks a paralegal to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team that provides high-quality legal representations to clients. This position will require expertise in all aspects of criminal litigation support; a high-level of organization and ability to multi-task; the ability to work independently and take leadership on projects; good communication and people skills; flexibility; and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and integrate new information and skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute filings of a variety of legal documents, including but not limited to motions, court forms, declarations, exhibits, and discovery documents.
- Research court rules, procedures, statutes and cases; gather facts, analyze data, and organize evidence.
- Maintain case files including motions, correspondence, discovery and other materials.
- Process and serve legal documents/subpoenas and obtain documents and information through investigation and other discovery methods.
- Serve as a liaison with clients, investigators, experts, prosecutors, the court, and other agencies.
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, motions.
- Prepare case files, assemble trial binders, and assist at hearings and trial, including coordinating witnesses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate plus two to three years of litigation experience, or any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
- Excellent typing and proofing skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure.
- Ability to work well with others, in a collegial and diverse environment.
- Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently.
- Fluency in Spanish highly desirable.
