Wages: $12.00 to $15.00 Depending on Experience
The above posted position will fill a vacancy for the Streets/Parks and Cemetery Departments maintaining the city’s parks and cemetery by mowing and weed eating. The job will be for 960 hours from April through September. The benefits include paid vacation after the first season, annual paid sick time available after 3 months, and paid days off for State recognized Federal Holidays. POSITION: Seasonal City Service Worker
DEPARTMENT: Streets, Parks, and Cemetery
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Streets Supervisor, City Administrator, Mayor
SUMMARY OF WORK: Provides general maintenance of streets, parks, cemetery, and other city property.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
Nature of Work: This position performs skilled and unskilled labor in the maintenance of the city cemetery, parks, roads, and grounds. Position works with equipment, electricity, hazardous liquids and materials, and in street traffic requiring adherence to safety standards. Position works in extreme temperatures and adverse weather. Position occasionally works outside normal hours for emergencies.
Personal Contacts: Frequent contact with the public in performance of duties. Position generally works with other city workers to perform duties.
Supervision Received: Experienced city service workers may supervise seasonal employees in the absence of the Street Supervisor.
Essential Functions: Position requires ability to operate pickup trucks; operate power equipment; use hand tools; communicate; hear traffic and machines; have good depth perception; walk distances on uneven ground; visually inspect areas; lift 75 pounds; paint; dig; climb ladders; follow written and oral instructions.
AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
Mows and weed-eats ballparks, boulevards, city hall grounds, cemetery, and parks. Cuts low hanging brush from streets and alleys, cleans restrooms at parks and picks up trash and debris. Operates cemetery and all city sprinkler systems.
May be involved in assisting with the maintenance or operation of city roads and alleys, mixing asphalt, patching holes, chip sealing, crack sealing, dust coating alleys, pouring and finishing concrete, hauling gravel, dirt, or garbage, washing and sweeping main city streets and highways, and putting up and taking down seasonal street banners.
Operates gasoline or diesel power lawn equipment such as small tractor mowers and weed eaters. Does minor vehicle maintenance and informs supervisor of major problems. Operates pickup trucks, chain saws and other power tools. Does carpentry work as required.
City Service Workers may occasionally perform duties in all phases of city operations including parks, cemetery, water department, and sewage plant. May assist in building tennis court bases, grandstands, baseball fields. Performs other related duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Knowledge: This position requires basic knowledge of lawn maintenance and related equipment, materials, methods, and procedures. Knowledge of CPR.
· Skills: This position requires skills in the operation of hand and power tools, driving pickup trucks, and lawn mowing equipment.
· Abilities: This position requires the ability to be prompt, accept constructive criticism, perform strenuous manual tasks for extended periods of time, lift at least 75 pounds, follow safety procedures, work in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions, communicate effectively, follow verbal and written instructions, establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
Must have valid Montana driver’s license to work alone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:
· A High School diploma/GED or currently enrolled.
· Two years’ experience with driving pickup trucks and lawn equipment preferred.
· Construction experience preferred.
· Must possess CPR and First Aid Cards or have the ability to obtain.

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
