Description:
The Natural Resource Specialist position is a permanent full-time position located in Carlsbad, NM, reporting to the Environment Services Project Manager. The Natural Resource Specialist will accomplish a wide variety of client needs including but not limited to:
- Conduct natural resource surveys (wildlife, plant, karst, hydrology, etc.)

Prepare NEPA documents (Environmental Assessments, Environmental Site Assessments) and related environmental planning or permitting deliverables

Assist with environmental planning, conflict analysis, and project coordination

Perform technical field surveys (wetland delineations, SWPPP inspections, formal on-site assessments, etc.)

Collect, enter, and manage field data; maintain accurate records and mapping outputs
-
Draft technical reports, permit applications, special studies, and presentations

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local natural resource laws and regulations
-
Collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies, private subcontractors, and clients

Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Job Requirements:
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Environmental Science, Wildlife Science, Ecology, Biology, Geology, or related field

Minimum of two years of professional experience in natural resource management, consulting, or environmental permitting

Ability to work long hours in the field in variable and challenging conditions

Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro

Ability to effectively and clearly communicate with clients, agencies, and team members

Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Preferred
-
Master’s degree (MS) in Environmental Science, Wildlife Science, Ecology, Biology, Geology, or related field

Experience with NEPA document preparation (EAs, EISs, Environmental Site Assessments)

Experience with state and federal environmental permitting processes
-
Experience performing technical environmental surveys (e.g., wetland delineations, SWPPP inspections, cave & karst)
-
Ability to pull a trailer and operate a UTV
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required

Knowledge of natural resource survey methods (wildlife, plant, karst, hydrology, etc.)

Ability to collect, analyze, and manage field data accurately

Competence in technical writing for environmental reports and planning documents

Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and standard office software (Word, Excel)

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and colleagues

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Experience applying state and federal natural resource regulations

Experience with NEPA document preparation and permitting

Familiarity with advanced GIS analysis and mapping
