Call-in Custodians are needed to substitute for current employee absences or supplement the operations of the Physical Plant Services Department. Employment is on an as-needed basis, providing flexibility in schedules. The qualifications and expectations are the same as for the regular custodial staff.
Rate of Pay: $18.20 per hour; no benefits
Location: Northfield or Winnetka Campus
Supervisor: Custodial Supervisor; Facilities Manager
Hours: All shifts:
First Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Second Shift: 3:15 PM to 11:45 PM
Third Shift: 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM
Qualifications:

Ability to operate job-related equipment such as vacuum, floor scrubber, and polisher.

Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.

Knowledge of procedures related to building safety, and knowledge of normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting rooms and libraries.

Ability to regularly lift and handle items weighing at least 50 pounds, occasionally more.

Physical ability to perform all essential custodial duties requiring bending, walking, standing, stooping, carrying, reaching, moving items, climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, and lifting; ability to perform manual work including dumping large bags into dumpster or transporting supplies, furniture, or equipment.

Ability to organize work flow to meet daily schedule, in a service-oriented environment with changing priorities and interruptions.

Ability to follow through and carry out assignments, providing pleasant, efficient and discreet service to the campus.

Ability to effectively communicate and follow oral instructions in English.

Ability to effectively read written instructions, read manuals, signs and product labels in English.

Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, punctuality and regularity of attendance, arrive at and leave work on time, observe lunch and break periods.

Position Expectations:

Maintains classrooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, and laboratories by:
-
Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.

Cleaning and maintaining floors, walls, carpets, furniture, fixtures, and window treatments.

Washing accessible interior and exterior windows.
-
Moving furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.

Performing cleaning and related activities such as removing snow and debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.

Handling recycling materials.

Maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools such as buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, rags, mops and squeegees.

Follows instructions in using chemicals and supplies properly.

Safely operates all vehicles and other job-related equipment.

Assists with set-up of building facilities for events and classes as needed.

Locks and unlocks assigned buildings; secures building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, reports any unauthorized occupants, turns off lights.

Attends to emergencies when necessary.

Attends safety and other related meetings.

Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, first aid, CPR, and working relationships.

Calls in work orders.

Assists in the instruction and supervision of student help.
