A Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of goods and materials needed for the company’s operations. This role works closely with vendors and internal teams to ensure products are ordered on time, meet quality standards, and stay within budget.
Key responsibilities typically include reviewing purchase requests, comparing suppliers, negotiating pricing and contracts, placing orders, tracking deliveries, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The Buyer also monitors market trends and supplier performance to support cost savings and ensure reliable supply chains.
The role requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and timing while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Analyze current production demands, which will be compared to on-hand quantities and open purchase orders, to make informed decisions on potential new purchases required.
- Researches, analyzes, and forecasts current and future buying trends, markets, styles, and products, with attention to specified target market and demographics.
- Develops and maintains relationships with wholesalers and suppliers, as well as internal manufacturing personnel.
- Negotiates contracts purchase agreements with wholesalers and suppliers.
- Assesses financial risks of purchases.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. Such duties may include, but are not limited to, active participation in quarterly physical inventories or addressing quality concerns that arise with Manufacturing and suppliers.
- Work with Accounts Payable on issues concerning supplier invoices and account statements
