Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health / Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT)

Emerald City Behavioral Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT) team in Spokane. This role is ideal for a nurse with behavioral health experience who wants consistent hours, meaningful work, and the opportunity to be part of a collaborative, community-based care model.
While this position is full-time, we are also open to part-time arrangements for the right candidate.
About the Role
The RN holds a defined caseload and provides both psychiatric nursing services and Mental Health Professional (MHP) services for individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders who live in residential settings. This is an outpatient role serving higher-acuity clients with a strong focus on stabilization, recovery, and diversion from hospitalization.
The RN combines medication management, nursing assessments, therapeutic client engagement, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and care coordination while working closely with prescribers, therapists, peers, and residential staff as part of a multidisciplinary IRT team.
Schedule & Work Setting
- Full-time preferred (part-time considered)
- Typical hours are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, weekdays
- Schedule coordinated around team and client needs
- Each workday is based at a different partner residential facility
- No night shifts, weekends, or on-call expectations
- Mileage between facilities is reimbursed at $0.70 per mile
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an assigned caseload of IRT clients
- Complete medication monitoring, nursing evaluations, and comprehensive health assessments
- Conduct therapeutic client visits and provide Mental Health Professional (MHP) services
- Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence, including injectable medications when applicable
- Identify early signs of psychiatric decompensation and intervene to support diversion from hospitalization
- Participate in treatment planning, interdisciplinary staffing, and discharge planning
- Coordinate care with prescribers, therapists, primary care providers, residential facilities, hospitals, and community partners
- Provide clinical input during multidisciplinary team staffing and care coordination
- Complete accurate documentation in accordance with Medicaid, Washington State HCA, and clinical standards
- Complete prior authorizations for certain medications and other clinical coordination activities as needed
Qualifications
- Active Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Behavioral health experience required
- Experience with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders strongly preferred
- Meets, or is eligible to meet, Washington State Mental Health Professional (MHP) requirements preferred
- Comfortable working independently within a collaborative, team-based model
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and reliable transportation
