Borinquen Medical Centers is based in Miami, FL and is seeking to hire a full-time STOPP-E Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team!. The Counselor will be responsible to provide screening, assessment, counseling, and HIV/Hepatitis education to individuals and families struggling with substance abuse issues, mental illness, trauma, and/or co-occurring disorders.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Responsible for interviewing, screening, and assessing clients who report struggling with issues of substance abuse as well as other mental health disorders.
- Work with an ethnically diverse population from an anti-oppression framework.
- Provide pretreatment and risk reduction counseling to substance abuse clients using CRCS (Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services).
- Administer intake and follow-up GPRAs and complete all required clinical documentation in a timely manner.
- Provide pre/post-test counseling for hepatitis and HIV.
- Coordinate referrals to substance abuse residential treatment facilities, as well as other ancillary services.
- Provide individual, couples, group, and family therapy to those struggling with substance use and/or mental illness.
- Provide trauma-focused counseling.
- Provide substance use and HIV/Hepatitis education and coordinate internal referrals to Ryan White/PAC Waiver case management as well as to primary care.
- Follow up with STOPP clients in the community at minimum once per month.
- Work cooperatively and in conjunction with the entire STOPP and Behavioral Health team.
- Become familiar with Athena EHR and document all clinical documentation and client contacts in EHR timely.
- Attend STOPP staff meetings, Behavioral Health department meetings, and BMC general staff meetings.
- Uses professional skills to balance and handle crisis situations in an appropriate manner.
- Provides all services abiding by a professional code of ethics and in accordance with BMC’s policies.
- Works with Director of Behavioral Health and staff to promote the success of the department and the organization.
- Participates in activities, health fairs, as needed by the STOPP program and by BMC.
- Assists Director of Behavioral Health and STOPP Program Manager.
- Coordinate and complete assigned project-based work.
- Recruit, organize, and facilitate support groups with various themes as the population demands.
- Able to work with integrated team to develop a client treatment plan.
- Create and modify documents for activities, and prepares reports as required by the program.
- Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or Director of BH, as required.
- Must communicate effectively with supervisor regarding caseloads, issues regarding supervision, and leave requests.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, sociology, behavioral science, marriage and family therapy or related field with some counseling experience. CAP preferred.
- Proof of all certifications and proof of licensure or intern status is required at time of application.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English or Haitian-Creole/English).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Handle information with high level of confidentiality.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
