Performs responsible part time clerical work involving the operation of the scale system at the County Waste Management Facility; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular
supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operates truck scale; determines weights; calculates and collects fees; prepares and maintains records and files.
- Weighs vehicles in and out for solid waste disposal using specialized software system.
- Monitors incoming waste and directs traffic to proper disposal area.
- Communicates with staff concerning incoming waste stream.
- Greets and provides helpful customer service to all incoming customers.
- Enters vehicle, material and origin information into computer software and maintains daily reports on scale house transactions.
- Balances out cash drawer at the end of the day.
- Answers and routes incoming telephone calls.
- Coordinates onsite and outgoing transfer trailers.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by management.
- Participates in employee meetings and training as needed.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
- Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs and reprioritizes work as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/ Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some public interaction experience.
Knowledge/Skills:
and Abilities: General knowledge in the operation of a large truck scale; ability to understand and use computer related equipment; ability to make simple arithmetic calculations; ability to handle public funds and maintain adequate records; ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to understand and follow specific written and oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Certifications/ Licenses:
Physical Requirements: This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment; determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, and oils. Special/ Additional Requirements:
Will be required to work at rotating Monday-Saturday schedule including some holidays. Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.
