Laser Application Engineer Job Summary:
We are seeking a Laser Application Engineer to apply mechanical and laser optics principles in laser welding, cladding, marking, and metal deposition. Laser Application Engineer Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering technology or engineering, with experience (desired) in manufacturing engineering support.
- Master’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field, preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in laser processing and laser metal deposition process development, industrial engineering or related experience.
Laser Application Engineer Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and improve processes for prototype laser welding and cladding by studying product requirements, designing equipment, and collaborating with planning and design teams.
- Create jigs, fixtures, and tooling for efficient manufacturing, while establishing procedures for personnel on material processes and complex alloy requirements.
- Ensure product and process quality through testing methods and establishing standards.
- Monitor processes for efficiency and quality improvements, including workflow, equipment layout, and reducing losses. May involve learning to set up, program, and operate production equipment.
- Maintain communication with sales and internal teams to meet customer specifications and performance needs.
Qualifications of Laser Application Engineer:
- Demonstrate experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, Teams, and Projects, to manage a project.
- Should have sufficient experience with CAD/CAM Design software to work independently on assigned projects, as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ANSI, NFPA 79, and Automotive design standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of AWS codes and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code-ASME Section IX.
- Demonstrate solid engineering knowledge of machining processes, EDM, laser cutting, forming, and or welding/cladding.
- Demonstrate advanced design knowledge of work cell type and functions, including Robotic, index tables, walking beam, conveyor, palletizers, etc.
- Demonstrate basic analysis capabilities including structural, and thermal.
