Position Summary
The Admissions Assistant provides administrative and customer service support in the processing of applications and admissions for the Public Housing Program. This position works directly with applicants and staff to collect and maintain accurate information, process documentation, maintain records, and provide timely assistance throughout the admissions process.
The successful candidate will be professional, detail-oriented, comfortable working with the public, and able to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive applicant information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist applicants with completing public housing applications and required forms.
- Receive, review, and process applications and supporting documentation.
- Verify that applications and applicant files are complete and accurate.
- Enter and update applicant information in the Housing Authority's housing management system.
- Maintain accurate applicant files, waiting-list records, and related documentation.
- Assist with verifying income, assets, family composition, and other eligibility information in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Schedule applicant appointments, interviews, orientations, and other admissions activities.
- Respond to telephone calls, emails, correspondence, and walk-in inquiries.
- Explain application procedures, required documentation, waiting-list processes, and general program requirements to applicants.
- Prepare letters, notices, forms, reports, and other correspondence.
- Scan, copy, file, and retrieve confidential documents.
- Assist with maintaining the Public Housing waiting list in accordance with Housing Authority policies and applicable HUD requirements.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to applicants and residents.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of applicant and resident information.
- Assist applicants with disabilities and individuals with limited English proficiency in accordance with Housing Authority policies.
- Work cooperatively with other Housing Authority departments and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of administrative, clerical, customer service, housing, social services, or related experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Previous experience working for a Public Housing Authority.
- Knowledge of HUD housing programs and eligibility requirements.
- Experience processing applications or maintaining waiting lists.
- Experience working with a computerized housing management system.
- Experience working with confidential records and sensitive information.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.74 per hour
