ARCA JOB DESCRIPTION – Medical Assistant
Job Title: Medical Assistant Supervised by: Nursing Director
Job Summary: Provides nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, plans of care and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment and Care Planning
· Gathers patient information upon admission and follow ups to the office. This includes adult assessment of addiction, withdrawal, and co-occurring conditions, including mental health and biomedical complications.
· Continuously observes patient's behavior, mental status and activities.
· Formulates and implements patient plans of care in collaboration with multidisciplinary team; family is included when appropriate.
· Under direction of the physician and Director of Nursing, revises plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Patient Care
· Demonstrates the ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
· Assists in patient care as necessary.
· Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Nurse Manager, co-workers and physicians.
· Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate individualized, optimal care for patients.
· Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; provides emotional support.
· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
· Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
· Provides education to the patient and family concerning plans of care, compliance with the plan of care, medications and their side effects.
· Functions as a patient and family advocate at all times.
· Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
Front office work
· Has knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and typing skills
· Communicates effectively via phone scheduling patients, working with pharmacies and insurance companies.
· Willing to learn electronic medical record system and charts appropriately.
Documentation
· Documentation meets current standards and policies for all patient care and medication management.
Professional Requirements:
Meets dress code standards; appearance is professional, neat and clean.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
Attends staff meetings regularly, arrives punctually and actively participates as necessary.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Maintains a good working relationship within the program and with other programs.
Orients new staff members and volunteers as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Complete accredited Medical Assistant program (e.g., Associates of Applied Science Degree)
Language Skills:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
