Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our dental practice. The ideal candidate will support the clinical team by providing chairside assistance, managing patient care, and ensuring smooth daily operations. This role requires a strong understanding of dental procedures, infection control protocols, and excellent patient communication skills. The Dental Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality dental care across general dentistry.
Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during various procedures including restorations, extractions, endodontic treatments, and prosthodontics
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring aseptic techniques are maintained
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging as needed, ensuring proper radiation safety protocols
- Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Dentimax in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Obtain vital signs and medical history information to support comprehensive patient assessments
- Educate patients on dental procedures, post-treatment care, and oral health practices
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure all equipment is properly sanitized
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing medical documentation
- Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures when required and adapt communication accordingly
- Support four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency during clinical procedures
- Keep up-to-date with dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and advancements in dental technology including 3D scanners
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentimax; experience with medical coding and records management is a plus
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to ensure patient privacy and safety
- Experience in chairside assisting across general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics
- Ability to operate dental X-ray equipment safely and accurately; familiarity with medical imaging techniques
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and aseptic techniques
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices is advantageous
- Knowledge of medical documentation standards and medical terminology for accurate record keeping
