The Facilities Manager plays a hands-on role in ensuring that our buildings and grounds are well-maintained, safe, and fully functional, providing a welcoming space for our congregation and guests.
Position Overview
The Facilities Manager is a hands-on role responsible for the daily maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of Shir Ami’s buildings and grounds. This individual will personally handle light carpentry and general maintenance, while also coordinating with outside contractors and vendors for larger-scale repairs and specialized projects such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
This position requires a skilled, proactive, and reliable professional who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, and ensuring that all aspects of the facility are in top condition. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, is comfortable handling a wide range of maintenance tasks, and can effectively manage time and priorities to keep Shir Ami running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform general building repairs, including light carpentry, drywall patching, painting, and minor structural fixes.
- Handle basic plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing faucets, and maintaining restroom facilities.
- Troubleshoot minor electrical issues, including replacing light fixtures, resetting breakers, and ensuring proper functionality.
- Conduct regular maintenance inspections, promptly addressing any issues to maintain a safe and fully operational environment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for outside contractors when major repairs or renovations are required, such as large-scale plumbing, electrical, or HVAC system work.
- Assist in planning and overseeing capital improvement projects, ensuring work is completed efficiently and cost-effectively.
Facilities & Grounds Upkeep
- Ensure the entire building and grounds remain clean, well-kept, and fully functional for daily use and special events.
- Perform routine facility inspections, making necessary repairs to doors, windows, flooring, and other structural elements.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including landscaping, minor tree and bush trimming, leaf blowing, and debris removal.
- Oversee seasonal maintenance contractors, including snow removal, salting walkways, and other weather-related preparations.
- Maintain fire safety systems, emergency exits, and security equipment in compliance with building codes and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Manage ordering and inventory of maintenance supplies, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are stocked.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and security team to ensure facility safety and compliance.
Housekeeping & Janitorial Oversight
- Manage third-party housekeeping and janitorial staff, ensuring all cleaning and sanitation needs are met.
- Oversee their event setup and breakdown, working with housekeeping staff to ensure proper furniture arrangement and cleanliness.
- Ensure restroom and common area maintenance, keeping supplies stocked and spaces properly sanitized.
- Address any facility cleanliness concerns and coordinate additional services when needed.
- Provide on-site support during large-scale events, troubleshooting any facility-related issues that arise.
Work Hours & Flexibility
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7 AM – 3 PM, with flexibility for adjustments as needed to accommodate special projects, large events, or urgent facility needs.
As a lifestyle position, we prioritize work-life balance with true scheduling flexibility. When evening or weekend events require your presence, you can adjust your hours accordingly—starting later the next day or using comp time as needed.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
