Position Summary
The MEP Engineer Associate An Engineering Designer is an early-career engineering professional responsible for supporting the planning, design, and drafting coordination, and documentation of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for a variety of commercial building, such as multifamily, restaurants, and retail banking. Working under the guidance of a licensed Project Professional Engineer, this role assists with project design, code compliance, construction documentation, and coordination with Architectural and other Engineering disciplines.
This position focuses on Mechanical and Plumbing systems design, and offers opportunities for technical growth, professional development, and increasing project responsibilities while contributing to high-quality, innovative design solutions.
This role can be based out of BDG’s downtown Tampa or Palm Harbor office.
Essential Responsibilities
· Assist in the design and production of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems for commercial building projects.
· Assist in preparing Prepare engineering calculations, design layouts, and technical documentation under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.licensed engineers.
· Assist in the development of Develop and modify construction documents using BIM software (Revit) and AutoCAD.
· Review coordination Coordinate of MEP Mechanical and Plumbing systems with architectural, structural, civil, and other specialty consultants.
· Participate in project meetings and interdisciplinary coordination sessions.
· Research applicable building codes, energy codes, and industry standards to ensure compliance.
· Support the preparation of permit and construction documents.
· Review shop drawings, product submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
· Producing Energy Calculations simulations in approved software (such as Comcheck).
· Assist during construction administration by researching responses to responding to contractor questions (RFIs), researching product data requirements and Code compliance for shop drawings and product submittals, and participating in site observations as needed.
· Help identify design conflicts and contribute to practical engineering solutions.
· Maintain organized project documentation and adhere to company quality standards.
· Continue developing technical knowledge through training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Education
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
· 1–32-5 years of experience in MEP engineering design.
· Experience in an architectural or consulting engineering environment preferred.
· Internship or cooperative education experience may be considered toward experience requirements.
Required Knowledge & Skills
· Knowledge and experience with Basic understanding of building Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems.
· Experience performing HVAC load calculations, and Plumbing pipe sizing.
· Familiarity with applicable building codes, including IBC, IECC, NFPA, NEC, and local jurisdiction requirements.
· Working knowledge of Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Experience or knowledge of cloud-based Document management software, such as SharePoint or Egnyte.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Meticulous attention to detail and quality control precision.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
· Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (passed the Fundamentals of Engineering / FE exam) or actively pursuing licensure.
· Experience with energy modeling or load calculation software.
· Familiarity with Bluebeam, BIM 360/ Forma, or project collaboration platforms.
· LEED Green Associate or interest in sustainable design.
· Knowledge of construction administration processes.
