Purpose of position: Controls movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects by performing the following duties.
Essential duties/responsibilities:

Develops, interprets and implements traffic routing plans or MHT, and type and location of control points from TCS 3, Crew Leader or Project Manager.

Distributes traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern.

Directs movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand, and flag signals.

Warns laborers and drivers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.

Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
-
Records license number of traffic control violators for police.

Gives hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for Flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.

Gives direction to flaggers.

Hauls and moves materials at jobsites

Shovels and sweeps asphalt

Operates small grinders

Lays striping materials on roadway

Loads and unloads trucks

Job Specifications:
Knowledge, skills and abilities

Basic reading and mathematical abilities
-
Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control
-
Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines and the translation of this to control traffic by using proper devices and techniques
-
Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand and power tools including hand shovel, pick, construction bar, rake, broom, and other handheld power tools.

Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them
-
Communication skills
-
Knowledge of and exposure to hazardous materials
Training/Education:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Traffic Control Supervisor Certification by the State of Colorado or ATSSA
-
Valid Colorado Flagger Certification
-
Valid Drivers License
Experience:
-
Two years experience in Roadway Construction settings, with a full understanding of the construction phasing, planning and field execution
-
Two years experience as a Traffic Control Supervisor with at least a year of that with mobile traffic control zones (managing the phasing of the mobile zone and people associated with that phasing)
Working Environment:
-
Outdoor environment that includes exposure to rain, sleet, snow, extreme cold, dust, mud, heat, direct sunlight, dark, and noise
-
May be exposed to moving vehicles, exhaust and fumes
Physical Activities:
-
Prolonged standing and bending, reaching, crawling, climbing, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.

Often includes lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling items up to 75 pounds.
