Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Childcare Kitchen Assistant with cleaning responsibilities to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the well-being of children by supporting meal preparation, maintaining high food safety standards, and ensuring a clean and organized kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will bring culinary enthusiasm, strong hygiene practices, and excellent communication skills to our vibrant childcare setting.
Duties
- Assist in preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with menu plans and food safety guidelines
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, slicers, and food prep tools, adhering to proper handling procedures
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area by cleaning surfaces, utensils, appliances, and storage areas regularly
- Follow food handling protocols to ensure safety standards are met during meal preparation and service
- Support with food portioning, plating, and serving meals in a friendly and efficient manner
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and caregivers to ensure meal times run smoothly and efficiently
- Assist with inventory management by organizing supplies and notifying supervisors of stock needs
Skills
- Previous experience in dietary departments or as a dietary aide is highly desirable
- Knowledge of menu planning, food preparation, and recipe adherence
- Strong understanding of food safety management and sanitation standards in a kitchen setting
- Experience operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with kitchen staff and caregivers
- Ability to perform basic culinary tasks such as slicing techniques, knife skills, and meal assembly
- Familiarity with catering or restaurant experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to follow safety standards in food production while maintaining high-quality service standards
