Academic advisors serve a caseload of assigned majors to provide guidance toward degree completion. With support from Department Chairs and the Dean, advisors will display a thorough understanding of curriculum procedures and graduation requirements, advocate for students, and work closely with faculty, student success officers, and academic records to improve student outcomes and success at UTM. Advisors are expected to monitor students' progress and provide resources and appropriate academic interventions as needed in support of UT Martin's student retention and success goals. Advisors are responsible for accurate record keeping, proficiency in all softwares and systems used in advising and registration, and participation in retention strategies and campaigns for their assigned caseloads.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Working knowledge of the basic principles of academic advising and the capacity to learn all facets of specific degree programs.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to work constructively on a team and to complete work independently.
Ability to learn and understand new systems.
