Property Accountant

Our client is seeking a Property Accountant to support full-cycle accounting activities across a portfolio of multifamily communities. This is a full-time, in-office position responsible for maintaining accurate, complete, and timely financial records for assigned properties.
As Property Accountant, you will handle the accounting cycle for a group of properties, coordinate closely with operations and leadership, and contribute to greater consistency and efficiency across the accounting function.
What You’ll Do:
Oversee full-cycle accounting for an assigned group of properties, from transaction entry through completed financial statements.
Analyze monthly results and deliver clear, actionable insights to property operations and ownership.
Review revenue and expense activity to confirm accurate coding and completeness.
Compile accruals, reconcile accounts, and generate reporting packages within established close deadlines.
Maintain audit-ready balance sheet reconciliations with thorough supporting documentation.
Contribute to variance analysis and help keep the monthly close calendar on track.
Track daily cash activity and coordinate with operations and accounts payable to support cash flow needs.
Validate tenant charges, lease information, and gross potential rent through detailed revenue reviews.
Work with the accounts payable team to keep invoice processing and vendor compliance items, including insurance documentation, on schedule.
Support internal control standards, company policy adherence, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Contribute to audit requests, year-end procedures, and 1099 reporting.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and support system upgrades or automation efforts.
Partner with property management to troubleshoot financial questions and guide issues to resolution.
Communicate clearly with both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders, responding to inquiries within expected timeframes.
What We’re Looking For:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business is required.
At least one year of relevant accounting experience; public accounting or real estate exposure is a plus but not required.
Solid understanding of financial statements and core accounting principles.
Advanced Excel proficiency.
Comfortable working within centralized workflow tools such as Freshdesk.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data for non-accounting audiences.
Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Self-starter with sound analytical and problem-solving abilities, comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
