Semillero de Ideas, or the Nursery of Ideas, is a non-profit dedicated to engaging farmworkers to lead and foster innovation in agriculture. Farmworkers, through their daily experience, are an untapped source of knowledge to improve the quality of work, aid growers to meet key metrics, and increase the integrity of our food supply.
Semillero de Ideas is a lean, non-profit start-up that centers farmworkers as the drivers of much-needed innovation in agriculture. Our operations are currently rooted in the farmworker communities of Eastern Washington, although we are quickly expanding to agricultural producing areas across the US and Mexico. This Outreach Specialist position will be in-person
Job Summary
As the Outreach Specialist you will be working with the program team to support all the activities that Semillero carries out during the busy agricultural season in the Yakima and Columbia River basin areas of Washington. You will report to the Farmworker Engagement Coordinator through weekly meetings either in person or virtually.
This position plays an important role in connecting farmworkers with opportunities offered by the organization. This organization is a non-hierarchical, self directed team.
Example activities include:
- Assist with planning, setup and facilitation of community workshops and events
- Welcome participants, assist with registration, and provide event support as needed
- Conduct outreach to farmworkers though phone calls, social media and in-person
- Taking photos and videos for our social media and write captions for social media posts
- Enter and update participant information in organizational databases and tracking systems
- Attend weekly team meetings and provide feedback to improve outreach efforts and events
- Travel within service areas to support outreach activities and program support duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and the ability to travel within assigned service areas. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with IRS rules
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed for workshops, outreach events, and community activities
- Must have reliable wifi and telephone access
Pay: $20.00 per hour
