Job Title: GA for Fraternity and Sorority Life

Job Type: This is a part time, exempt position.
The primary function of the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life is to assist students in maximizing their opportunities for learning and to support an environment conducive to student development. This individual must be dynamic and willing and able to reach out to others. The Graduate Assistant (GA) must be capable of positively responding to a wide variety of situations. This person must strive to challenge students in the areas of student involvement and leadership. The GA must be able to take initiative for programming, decision-making responsibilities, and be detail orientated.
The term of this job description is for two academic years, from July 7th until the end of May annually, or the academic year as outlined by William Woods University.
- Assist with fraternity and sorority fall recruitment.
- Advise fraternity/sorority leaders and/or councils.
- Develop educational programming unique to Fraternity and Sorority populations e.g., new member education, social responsibility, etc.
- Assisting Residential Life with hall openings and closings.
- Advise other student organizations such as Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega.
- Attend Panhellenic and IFC meetings as needed.
- Attend Greek conferences, workshops, and trainings as needed.
- Assist with New student orientation and assist other department within Student Life.
- Maintain Greek G.P.A. reports and other data entry functions for the WWU Greek community throughout the academic year.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Concurrent enrollment in a graduate program at William Woods University or a nearby university.
Understanding of student involvement on a small college residential campus.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, faculty, students and parents.
- Ability to work without constant supervision.
- Genuine interest in working with college students.
- Ability to exercise basic human relations skills in directing and motivating student leaders and dealing with varied constituencies on and off campus.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn software programs.
Essential Job PREFERENCES:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, faculty, students and parents.
- Ability to work without constant supervision.

- Ability to exercise basic human relations skills in directing and motivating student leaders and dealing with varied constituencies on and off campus.

- Ability to climb several flights of stairs several times each day and move freely on campus.
- Ability to crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to spend time outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Ability to speak and read English fluently.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard and phone.
- Effective mobility skills required to move about freely and quickly in office and on campus.
- Must meet the requirements of the William Woods University vehicle policy.
Graduate Assistants work an average of 25 hours per week. The Graduate Assistant is not required to work during the summer months but may continue to live in campus housing (if available).
Compensation:
This is a 10-month position beginning July and ending in May. Includes full tuition in a master’s program, housing on campus year-round, and board when the campus dining facility is open.
Graduate Assistants are required to hold their GA position for a two-year timeframe. Specifically, two classes in the fall semester, two classes in the spring semester, and one class in the summer semester are covered by the tuition benefit.
