American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Staff Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience.

Float pool position within the Med/Surg department of a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
-
May be assigned to units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MedSurg/Ortho/Urology, with a home unit assigned on the first day of orientation

Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit

12-hour day shifts, 7:00 am start, 36 hours per week
-
Shift times available include 7a-7p and 7p-7a on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle via Smart Square
-
Weekend rotation required, either every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
-
No on-call requirements

Floating required to like units (MedSurg to MedSurg or ICU tasks, MedSurg to ER/holds; ICU to ICU or MedSurg tasks up to a limit of 3, ICU to ER/holds)

EMR used is Cerner, with Epic experience also considered

Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
-
Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
-
Unit support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
-
Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
-
Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
-
Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
-
Cerner EMR experience required if experience is strictly ICU-based
-
Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, PEG, trach care, IV starts, central line blood draws, ostomy/colostomy care, and medication administration depending on unit assignment
-
Telemetry experience preferred, to be discussed during the interview process
-
Chemo certification preferred for Oncology unit assignment
-
Provide direct patient care including turning, bathing, and ADL assistance in line with lower patient ratios and high quality of care expectations
-
Assigned unit may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MedSurg/Ortho/Urology care

Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
-
Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a travel RN

First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy

Up to 7 days of time off may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates

Scrubs of any color are permitted
