Part-Time Private Chef — Vegetarian Household with Young Children
Westlake Village, CA (in-home)
Schedule
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday only.
Fixed 3-hour mid-morning to early-afternoon shift, chosen once and kept identical from day one:
- 9:00 AM–12:00 PM or
- 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
Live-out position in a private residence.
About the Role
We are a vegetarian household in Westlake Village looking for a skilled, reliable private chef. On cooking days you will prepare nutritious, delicious meals for our two young children (with attention to vegetarian nutritional needs) and dinner for 4 adults plus the two children.
Menus must be planned in advance, varied, and approved by us. Groceries are to be shopped or ordered ahead so everything is ready when you arrive. All cooking is from scratch. New recipes are tested outside our home. The kitchen must be left extremely clean.
Responsibilities
- Create varied weekly vegetarian menus and submit them for approval in advance (typically by mid-week for the following week).
- Handle grocery shopping or online ordering from quality local sources so ingredients are on site.
- Prepare from-scratch meals during the 3-hour window: kid-focused vegetarian dishes that meet children’s nutritional needs plus dinner for 4 adults and 2 children.
- Deliver well-seasoned, well-prepared, appealing food—never bland or repetitive.
- Test any new ideas off-site; only finished, reliable dishes are cooked here.
- Check quality of ingredients and cooked food; confirm equipment is in good working order.
- Maintain the highest hygiene standards: run the dishwasher, hand-wash items that cannot go in it, and thoroughly clean all prep, cooking, and storage areas (counters, appliances, drawers, refrigerator, freezer, cabinets, and handles). Leave the kitchen fully reset.
- Follow food-safety practices and household guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven private- or personal-chef experience, preferably with vegetarian cooking and families with young children.
- Knowledge of children’s nutrition on a vegetarian diet (protein variety, iron + vitamin C pairing, calcium, zinc, B12, etc.) and the ability to make food kids will actually eat.
- Excellent organization and time management; able to shop/order, cook, and fully clean within the fixed 3-hour window while working independently.
- Valid California Food Handler Card (or obtained within 30 days).
- Dependable, punctual, discreet, and professional.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for grocery runs.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and stand/move throughout the shift.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- English proficiency.
Preferred
Culinary training or strong professional kitchen background, experience cooking for children, familiarity with Westlake Village / Thousand Oaks stores and markets, and a food-protection-manager certification.
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
