Job Title: Video Technician
Location: Los Angeles
Summary:
Responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of video equipment for live events, broadcasts, and recordings. Ensures high-quality visual output by managing technical systems, troubleshooting issues, and supporting both pre-production and post-production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, test, and dismantle video, audio, and lighting equipment such as cameras, projectors, screens, and switchers.
- Maintain and ensure all video equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Operate video and audio systems during live events, broadcasts, and recordings.
- Monitor and adjust visual feeds in real-time to ensure quality and consistency.
- Identify and resolve technical issues with hardware and software during productions.
- Support the design, configuration, and maintenance of complex video systems when required.
- Collaborate with directors, producers, and technical staff to integrate video, audio, and lighting elements.
- Communicate effectively with clients or event organizers to understand and meet technical needs.
- Assist with video editing, encoding, and content preparation for various media platforms.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining video, audio, and lighting systems.
- Knowledge of video signal flow, codecs, compression, and file formats.
- Experience with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
- Familiarity with IP networking and live streaming technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and visual accuracy.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to fast-paced environments.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude.
Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in Media Production, Broadcasting, or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Hands-on experience through internships, apprenticeships, or entry-level AV roles.
- Industry certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) from AVIXA are advantageous.
- Portfolio or work samples demonstrating technical capability and creativity.
Career Progression
- Entry-level roles include AV Technician or Production Assistant.
- Advancement opportunities include Senior Video Technician, Video Engineer, or AV Consultant.
- With experience, potential to move into system design, broadcast engineering, or project management roles.
