Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Special Education Self Contained Lead Teacher to join our team and community at Early Childhood Academy PCS. In this pivotal role, you will lead a classroom of students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other special needs. Your expertise in curriculum development, classroom management, and behavioral strategies will foster an inclusive environment where every student can thrive. As a leader in special education, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support early childhood development through engaging instructional practices. Duties
- Develop and implement tailored lesson plans aligned with IEP goals, incorporating evidence-based practices to support students with significant coginitive, behavioral, adaptive and communication needs
- Manage daily classroom activities to promote positive behavior management and effective classroom management strategies
- Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, and other professionals to support students’ communication skills and social-emotional development
- Conduct informal assessments using curricular tools to monitor student progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly
- Provide mentorship and supervision to assistant teachers and paraprofessionals, fostering a collaborative team environment
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, behavior reports, and IEP compliance records
- Engage families through regular communication about student achievements, challenges, and progress toward educational goals
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays
- Strong knowledge of early intervention techniques and behavior management
- Expertise in curriculum development across subjects such as literacy education, math, and life skills tailored for special needs students
- Excellent classroom management skills to create a safe, inclusive learning environment
- Proficiency in lesson planning and adapting instructional materials for diverse learners
- Familiarity with data analysis for student assessment
- Exceptional communication skills to collaborate with families, colleagues, and external specialists
- At least 2 years of lead teacher experience as a special education teacher
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis is a plus
