Patient Financial Services Representative / Referral Coordinator

AZ State Urological Institute (ASUI) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused professional to join our team as a Patient Financial Services Representative / Referral Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in supporting patient access, insurance verification, referral processing, and patient financial services within a fast-paced specialty healthcare environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with medical insurance, referral coordination, patient account support, and healthcare administration while demonstrating strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
Schedule
Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, deductibles, and co-insurance information while ensuring accurate patient registration and insurance documentation
- Receive, review, verify, and process incoming referrals from Primary Care Providers (PCPs) using electronic referral tracking systems
- Maintain accurate referral tracking and documentation to ensure timely processing, team awareness, and continuity of patient care
- Answer patient billing, referral, and account-related questions professionally over the phone
- Reconcile patient balances and collect outstanding patient payments accurately and efficiently
- Gather, organize, and maintain patient demographic, insurance, and clinical referral information according to office guidelines and HIPAA compliance standards
- Communicate referral requirements, appointment details, and necessary healthcare information to patients and referring provider offices
- Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding referral status, scheduling questions, and referral-related inquiries
- Maintain effective communication with providers, referring offices, insurance representatives, and healthcare staff to ensure accurate and timely referral processing
- Provide appointment reminders, follow-up communication, and timely resolution of patient requests and referral-related concerns
- Maintain accurate patient financial and administrative records with strong attention to detail, organization, and confidentiality
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems, referral tracking tools, and Microsoft 365 applications to support daily workflow and documentation accuracy
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or higher preferred
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in:
- Referral Coordination
- Medical Billing Support
- Patient Financial Services
- Healthcare Administration
- Insurance Verification
- Strong understanding of:
- Medical Insurance Plans
- Referral Processing
- Patient Registration & Documentation
- HIPAA Compliance
- Medical Terminology
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, EMR/EHR systems, and healthcare databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
