Job Overview
Comet Electric is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful planning, execution, financial management, and closeout of public works electrical construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements while delivering exceptional service to our clients.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and extensive experience managing public works and transportation electrical projects ranging from $2M to $50M+.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the public works electrical construction and/or civil transportation industry.
- Proven experience managing electrical construction projects valued between $2M and $50M+.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration.
- Ability to independently interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and other construction documents.
- Strong estimating and quantity takeoff experience with exceptional attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) and construction software including Accubid, HeavyBid, Foundation, and Bluebeam.
- Excellent verbal, written, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Results-oriented with strong business acumen.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively across departments.
- Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
Essential Functions
- Develop comprehensive project execution plans, including schedules, milestones, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Manage all phases of multiple public works electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget objectives.
- Review, negotiate, and administer construction contracts.
- Develop and review project estimates, proposals, budgets, and schedules.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and field personnel.
- Procure project materials and ensure timely delivery.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents while providing technical guidance to project teams.
- Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Conduct periodic site visits to monitor construction progress, quality, safety, and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for repeat business and new client development.
- Mentor and supervise Project Engineers and other project staff.
- Resolve project challenges, delays, claims, and contract issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaborate with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal departments to ensure successful project delivery.
- Promote and enforce the Company's safety culture and Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
- Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility to travel to project sites throughout Southern California.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
- Frequently use hands to handle materials, equipment, and documents.
- Frequently reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while visiting project sites.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to access all areas of active construction sites, including uneven terrain and elevated work areas.
- Must possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position is based primarily out of our South El Monte, CA office with regular travel to project sites throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding areas.
The work environment includes both office and active construction site settings. Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, vibration, and elevated noise levels while visiting job sites. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when visiting construction sites.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
