Job Summary
The City of Portland's Public Health Department is seeking two qualified individuals for full-time (37.5 hours per week) project positions to assist with a community-based Healthy Eating Active Living program. These are grant funded positions through the State's Rural Health Transformation Program. Candidates hired into these roles will use Food Is Medicine strategies across Cumberland County, develop and sustain partnerships with healthcare organizations, conduct outreach and nutrition education and linking to services. Additionally, this role will identify policy, systems, and environmental changes related to nutrition access and fulfill extensive reporting and evaluation requirements. Successful candidates will be energetic self-starters who can complete required tasks independently.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work directly with children, families and teachers in the Portland community to provide nutrition education in a variety of settings.
- Outreach to local healthcare and community organizations to establish and develop program partnerships.
- Connecting individual participants to available services and programs.
- Complete accurate reporting of program specifics in complex database systems.
- Participate in evaluation process for programs and make changes as needed.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a public health-related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. A minimum two years of community-based experience in the field of nutrition education (or related) strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly with individuals and larger groups about programmatic initiatives.
- Knowledge and skills in the methods of health education and promotion, including social media promotion for public health.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community members, providers, physicians, public health staff, and consumers.
- Ability to participate in reporting and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to facilitate communication between clients and health care providers.
- Experience using personal computers, tablets, and data based software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Food Is Medicine strategies and clinical-community partnerships is strongly desired.
Expected Hours/Schedule:
37.5 Hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM. Flexible schedule arrangements may be available.

Salary & Benefits:
This is a union position, Pro-Tech Grade 6, with a starting pay range of $28.41-$30.14/hour, based on relevant years of experience.
