Heavy Civil Estimator Construction

A growing civil construction contractor is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator with experience in earthwork, underground utilities, and site development projects. This individual will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects while supporting the preconstruction and bidding process from initial plan review through project award.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in evaluating project risks, production methods, and construction costs to support safe and profitable project execution.
Heavy Civil Estimator Key Responsibilities
- Perform quantity take-offs using construction drawings, specifications, and site information to calculate earthwork volumes, utility quantities, and material requirements
- Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, trucking, production rates, subcontractor costs, and material pricing
- Analyze construction means and methods to determine the most efficient and cost-effective project approach
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure complete project scope coverage
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to assess site conditions, access constraints, and constructability challenges
- Prepare bid summaries, proposal packages, scope clarifications, and estimate recaps for management review
- Coordinate with project managers, field operations teams, vendors, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process
- Assist with value engineering, risk analysis, and project handoff activities upon award
Heavy Civil Estimator Preferred Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction, earthwork, excavation, underground utilities, or site development
- Strong understanding of grading, utility installation, excavation, and sitework construction practices
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, quantity take-offs, and construction estimating processes
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and estimating/takeoff software such as AGTEK, Trimble, HCSS, Sage, or similar platforms
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to interpret construction plans and visualize field operations from design documents
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across project teams
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and deadline management
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
