The Teamsters Local 705 Benefit Funds in Chicago, Illinois seek an experienced Fund Administrator to lead day-to-day operations and support the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversee compliance and benefit administration activities, develop staff, and help advance the Funds' long-term objectives. This is a fully onsite position with a planned transition period alongside the current Administrator, who will retire in early 2027.
The Funds collect contributions from approximately 40 employers to provide defined benefit pension benefits to approximately 5,000 active participants and 8,000 retirees, survivors and beneficiaries. The Funds also administer a health plan for about 2,500 members and dependents. There are currently 15 employees working in the Fund Office. Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):
Strategic Leadership and Operations
- Lead all aspects of Fund Office operations and administration.
- Supervise, develop and mentor staff while fostering a culture of service and accountability.
- Continuously improve processes, service delivery, and operational efficiency.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, DOL, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate annual filings, participant disclosures, and trustee reporting.
Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison to Trustees, employers, participants, unions, vendors, and professional advisors.
- Ensure participants are provided with knowledgeable, courteous and timely customer service.
- Manage complex participant inquiries and escalated matters.
Trustee and Professional Advisor Support
- Coordinate Trustee meetings and work closely with legal counsel, actuaries, auditors, investment consultants, and other advisors.
- Provide benefit fund data analysis when requested by the Board of Trustees or plan professionals.
Financial Oversight
- Oversee administrative budgets, banking relationships, service providers, and implementation of Trustee directives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree; CEBS designation preferred.
- Ten or more years of multiemployer benefit plan administration experience.
- Seven or more years in a senior leadership role with direct interaction with Boards of Trustees.
- Significant experience in Taft-Hartley and collectively bargained environments.
- Strong knowledge of ERISA, IRS, DOL, HIPAA, ACA, and related benefit plan requirements.
- Experience supervising staff and managing relationships with professional service providers.
- Experience with ISSI benefits administration systems is a plus.
