Position Summary
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining irrigation systems for commercial and residential landscape construction projects. This position works closely with the Landscape Construction Crew to ensure irrigation systems are installed accurately, efficiently, and according to project specifications while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install complete irrigation systems including mainlines, lateral lines, valves, sprinkler heads, drip irrigation, and controllers.
- Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and construction drawings.
- Lay out irrigation systems according to project specifications.
- Perform system testing, startup, and final adjustments.
- Diagnose and repair irrigation system issues during installation.
- Install and program irrigation controllers and smart irrigation technology.
- Ensure proper water coverage and system efficiency.
- Coordinate irrigation installation with grading, planting, hardscape, and other construction activities.
- Operate trenchers, pipe pullers, mini excavators, skid steers, and other equipment safely.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
- Keep accurate records of completed work and material usage.
- Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, subcontractors, and clients as needed.
- Assist with general landscape construction tasks when irrigation work is complete.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of irrigation installation or landscape construction experience preferred.
- Knowledge of irrigation components, hydraulics, and system design principles.
- Experience installing PVC pipe, drip irrigation, valves, wire, and controllers.
- Ability to read irrigation plans and landscape construction drawings.
- Familiarity with Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro, or similar irrigation products preferred.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record preferred.
- Irrigation certification is a plus but not required.

- Comfortable working in various weather conditions.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely.
Work Environment
- Outdoors.
- Exposure to heat, cold, rain, dust, mud, and uneven terrain.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required during peak season.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with two-wire systems and smart irrigation controllers.
- CDL or trailer towing experience is a plus.
- Experience in commercial landscape construction.
