Job Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low-voltage cabling and related systems for electronic and communication equipment. This role ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company standards, blueprints, and applicable codes. The Service Technician supports project goals by delivering high-quality workmanship and outstanding customer service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems in commercial environments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate installation.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues with cabling or network performance.
- Perform retrofits and upgrades to existing systems as required.
- Maintain tools, materials, and test equipment in good working order.
- Follow safety protocols and company policies at all times.
- Keep an organized and clean work area on job sites.
- Communicate effectively with project leads, supervisors, and customers.
- Document work performed, test results, and materials used per company procedures.
- Ensure installations meet industry standards, manufacturer requirements, and customer expectations.
- Support team members in meeting project deadlines and quality goals.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain certifications and technical skills.
- Provide transportation to and from assigned job sites as needed.
- Represent the company in a professional manner with clients, vendors, and coworkers.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.Follow direction from leads and or equipment manuals
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of structured cabling systems, color codes, and terminations.
- Familiarity with testing tools such as cable certifiers, OTDRs, and multimeters.
- Understanding of applicable codes and industry standards (TIA/EIA, NEC).
- Ability to identify and use appropriate tools and installation methods for specific tasks.
- Basic knowledge of LEAN Construction practices is a plus.
- Manufacturer certifications preferred (e.g., Leviton, Panduit, Ortronics, Berk-Tek, SYSTIMAX).
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- 1-3 Years of Low Voltage Service Experience in Commercial Construction
- Certifications and/or licenses (list only if required or preferred; should be relevant to the position).
