Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) is a respected and trusted nonprofit organization that informs and connects the Naperville community through local news, sports, and community programming. NCTV17 is seeking a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join its news team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated reporter to gain hands-on experience covering the third-largest city in Illinois.
Position Overview
The Multimedia Journalist will produce compelling local content from start to finish, contributing across all NCTV17 platforms. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently in the field, generate story ideas, and build meaningful connections throughout the community.
Responsibilities Include:
As an MMJ at NCTV17, you’ll tell the stories that matter to Naperville, covering the people, issues, events, and stories shaping the community.
- Shoot, write, and edit original news stories for web, broadcast, and social media
- Produce stories from concept to completion
- Deliver multiple stories per week focused on local news, people, and issues
- Cultivate and develop story ideas relevant to Naperville residents
- Report live or on-location from various community settings
- Respond to breaking news and urgent coverage needs
- Create engaging digital and social media content (Instagram, Facebook, X.)
- Post and manage content on NCTV17.org (a WordPress site)
- Attend editorial meetings and contribute story pitches
- Build and maintain relationships with local sources, organizations, and community leaders
- Represent NCTV17 professionally at community events and in public settings
Qualifications
We’re seeking someone motivated, collaborative, and eager to grow as a journalist in a fast-paced local newsroom.
- 1–3 years of professional journalism experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcast, or related field
- Strong news judgment and AP-style writing skills
- Demonstrated storytelling ability across video and digital platforms
- Proficiency in video editing (Adobe Premiere or comparable software)
- Strong camera skills with the ability to shoot independently
- Experience with web publishing tools (WordPress preferred)
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in breaking news situations
- Strong organizational, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Valid Illinois driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided)
Compensation:
- Salary: $37,000 to $40,000 (based on experience)
