SUMMARY:
The Student Transportation Clerk is responsible for supporting the Director of Student Transportation
in the management of driver operations and ensuring the efficient and timely transportation of
students to and from school-related activities. This role involves supervising bus drivers, coordinating
transportation schedules, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and addressing any issues
related to student transportation. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the Transportation
Director, parents, and district staff to ensure that transportation services meet the needs of the
students while maintaining the high standards of safety and professionalism.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
❖ High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
❖ Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is preferred.
❖ Ability to possess a valid, state issued driver’s license, CDL with endorsements for driving a school bus;
demonstrate a clean driving record, and proficient in driving a school bus.
❖ Demonstrated experience in school transportation with knowledge of bus routing systems, and driver
training.
❖ Ability to coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities, field trips, and events.
❖ Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
❖ Administers the school bus transportation program within the assigned district, implementing
regulations, policies, and procedures supporting the State Department of Education (IDE).
❖ Assists Director in complying with state and federal safety requirements pertaining to school bus drivers.
❖ Performs route and driver evaluations. Verify training and safety reviews are performed and properly
documented in District Bus Driver File.
❖ Assist with and prepare school bus driver training classes, seminars, and workshops.
❖ Organize and assist with transportation field trips, extracurricular activities, and special events.
❖ Provide clear instructions to drivers regarding pick-up and drop-off points, student behavior
expectations, and safety protocols.
❖ Communicate any delays, issues, or changes to parents and school staff in a timely manner.
❖ Relay important information to drivers, including route changes, weather conditions, or emergencies.
❖ Assists the director with parent, district and school communications.
❖ Track the location and status of buses in real-time to ensure on-time performance and safe operations.
❖ Respond to emergencies, accidents, or other unexpected situations, providing guidance and support to
drivers as needed.
❖ Attends regional Supervisor’s meetings.
❖ Responds to inquiries and requests for information, interprets program regulations and guidelines.
❖ Represents the District at local, state, and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings, as directed,
including serving on committees, study groups, councils, task forces, and related associations.
❖ Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with IDE and District policies, procedures, and

❖ Performs other related duties as required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
❖ Experience using a personal computer and spreadsheets.
❖ Ability to efficiently utilize computerized transportation software programs.
❖ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, parents,
peers, and school communities.
❖ Maintain awareness of facility and school bus driver safety.
❖ Ability to read and utilize maps, GPS, and software as resource tools.
❖ Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
❖ Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal laws, State of Idaho Statutes,
❖ Understand Board of Education rules and school district requirements.
❖ Organize and maintain transportation facilities, equipment and training documentation.
❖ Ability to network and create relationships for future industry training and growth.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
The incumbent will be required to travel annually for local, state and national training conferences and
workshops, unless situations arise that warrant more immediate attention.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
❖ Approximately 70% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.
❖ Approximately 30% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
❖ Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of school buses and/or transportation
vehicles.
❖ Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving a combination of
stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing
and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 20 pounds.
❖ Tasks may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust,
pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery,
vibrations, electric currents, or traffic hazards.
COMPENSATION:
❖ 260 days per year, 8 hours per day.
❖ Salary to be determined by the School Board.
❖ Vacation time per district policy for classified personnel.

EVALUATION:
❖ Employee’s performance in this position will be evaluated by the Transportation Director in
conformance with district policy.
❖ Six-month probationary period.
