Staff Pharmacist – Closed-Door Long-Term Care Pharmacy Full-Time | Roanoke, VA | In-Person Compensation $62–$65 per hour + Quarterly Bonus Eligibility up to $4,000 Quarterly bonus eligibility is based on established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including individual productivity, accuracy and quality, attendance, workflow contribution, and achievement of defined operational performance goals. About SpecialtyRx SpecialtyRx is a Long-Term Care pharmacy providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other long-term care providers. This is a closed-door pharmacy environment with no retail metrics or drive-thru. Our pharmacists work within an integrated verification and operational workflow and collaborate directly with pharmacy technicians, facility nursing staff, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals to support safe and timely medication delivery. We are seeking a motivated Staff Pharmacist to join our growing Roanoke, Virginia pharmacy operation. Integrated Pharmacist Workflow Our pharmacists are an active part of the complete pharmacy workflow. Pharmacists may rotate between order verification, final verification, facility communication, medication clarification, and production support based on operational needs. This position requires flexibility, urgency, accountability, and a willingness to support the overall pharmacy workflow. Responsibilities The responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of the role and are not an exhaustive list. Duties and responsibilities may change or expand based on pharmacy workflow, staffing, business needs, regulatory requirements, and leadership direction. - Review and verify medication orders for clinical and legal appropriateness, including drug selection, dosage, allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic duplication, renal dosing, and proper administration. - Perform pharmacist verification functions, including order verification and final product verification. - Ensure medications are accurately processed, dispensed, packaged, labeled, and verified in accordance with applicable federal and Virginia pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies. - Review patient profiles, medication histories, clinical information, and relevant laboratory data when appropriate. - Communicate directly with facility nursing staff, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals to clarify medication orders and resolve medication-related questions. - Make appropriate recommendations regarding medication therapy, antibiotic stewardship, renal dosing, pain management, and other clinical medication concerns. - Review and resolve prescription clarifications, incomplete orders, refill requests, and medication-related issues. - Process and verify controlled substance prescriptions in accordance with federal and state requirements and company policies. - Support STAT, urgent, new admission, emergency medication, e-kit, and automated dispensing system (ADS) medication workflows. - Maintain awareness of pharmacy cutoff times, release schedules, and delivery deadlines and demonstrate appropriate urgency to support on-time medication delivery. - Provide pharmacist oversight and direction to pharmacy technicians and support staff. - Supervise medication preparation and production activities within the pharmacist's scope of responsibility. - Work collaboratively with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, order entry, billing, fulfillment, and pharmacy leadership to maintain an efficient integrated workflow. - Assist with production workflow and final verification based on pharmacy volume and operational needs. - Identify and escalate workflow barriers, medication safety concerns, and operational issues to pharmacy leadership. - Participate in medication safety, quality assurance, process improvement, and corrective action initiatives. - Maintain compliance with Virginia Board of Pharmacy requirements, DEA requirements, company policies, and pharmacy quality standards. - Utilize pharmacy technology and workflow systems to efficiently manage medication orders and facility communication. - Perform on-call duties when required. - Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on pharmacy workflow, staffing, and business needs. Qualifications - PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy program. - Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. - Long-Term Care pharmacy experience preferred. - Previous acute care, hospital, high-volume, central fill, mail-order, retail, or other pharmacy experience may be considered. - Strong clinical judgment, analytical skills, and critical thinking abilities. - Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive responsibilities in a high-volume pharmacy environment. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication accuracy and patient safety. - Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and ownership. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Comfortable communicating with nurses, prescribers, and facility staff by phone and digital messaging platforms. - Ability to provide direction and oversight to pharmacy technicians. - Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. - Ability to work effectively within an integrated and cross-functional pharmacy workflow. - Strong computer and pharmacy systems skills. - FrameworkLTC and ECM software knowledge is preferred. - IV pharmacy experience is a plus. - Ability and willingness to learn new pharmacy technology, automation, and workflow systems.
