Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Utility Detail Engineer to join their engineering team in Canton, Ohio. Position Overview:
As a Utility Detail Engineer, you will manage the detailing process for utility pole structures from initial design through manufacturing documentation. You will review engineering drawings, verify manufacturability, develop Bills of Materials (BOMs), coordinate with customers and internal teams, and ensure all designs comply with company, customer, and utility standards.
This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while supporting the successful production of utility structures used throughout the electrical transmission and distribution industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Design
Manage the detailing required to manufacture utility pole structures.
Develop and review detailed engineering drawings for accuracy and completeness.
Verify designs comply with company, customer, and utility engineering standards.
Create and review:
CAD drawings
Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Manufacturing documentation
Review in-house and vendor-supplied engineering designs.
Perform engineering calculations and design evaluations for projects of varying complexity.
Analyze design challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
Design Verification:
Verify layouts using engineering software to ensure manufacturability.
Review designs utilizing:
AutoCAD
PLS-POLE
SolidWorks
Ensure production drawings accurately reflect customer requirements and engineering intent.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other internal departments throughout project execution.
Communicate directly with customers to obtain technical clarifications and design approvals.
Coordinate design revisions and resolve engineering questions efficiently.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
Documentation & Quality
Interpret and review:
Blueprints
Bills of Materials
Purchase Orders
Approval Drawings
Customer engineering documentation
Maintain engineering documentation and revision control.
Ensure projects remain on schedule while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Balance multiple projects and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
Preferred Education:
Experience:
3-5 years of engineering design detailing experience.
Experience creating manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
Experience working with utility structures, structural steel, or similar fabricated products is preferred.
