Job Summary
FDNY is seeking a highly skilled GIS Developer to design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade geospatial applications and services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with the Esri ArcGIS platform, modern web application development frameworks, geospatial data management, and automation technologies. This role will support mission-critical GIS solutions used across the organization and requires strong expertise in ArcGIS Enterprise architecture, application development, and geospatial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise GIS applications and services.
- Build and deploy interactive web mapping applications using the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.
- Develop backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
- Configure, administer, and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environments.
- Develop advanced geoprocessing and automation tools using Python.
- Create and optimize complex spatial queries and database operations.
- Integrate GIS solutions with enterprise systems and third-party applications.
- Develop custom GIS widgets, workflows, and user interfaces.
- Troubleshoot application, performance, and data-related issues.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, GIS analysts, and technical teams to deliver geospatial solutions.
- Support deployment, testing, and production release activities.
Required QualificationsMandatory Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on GIS applications.
- Strong experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, including:
- Portal for ArcGIS
- ArcGIS Server
- ArcGIS GeoEvent Server
- ArcGIS Data Store
- Experience developing and deploying applications using:
- ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
- Java
- Spring Boot
- Advanced proficiency in Python scripting for geoprocessing, automation, and GIS workflows.
- Strong SQL skills with experience writing:
- Complex spatial queries
- Spatial joins
- Database performance optimization
- Experience with REST APIs, web services, and enterprise application integration.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred QualificationsDesirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with ArcGIS API for Python for GIS DevOps activities, including:
- User and role management
- Content auditing
- Automated administration
- Environment migration and cloning between Development, Test, and Production environments
- Expert-level knowledge of ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript 4.x, including:
- Custom widget development
- 2D and 3D mapping applications
- SceneView and advanced visualization capabilities
- Experience with modern web frameworks such as:
- React
- Angular
- Vue.js
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and source control systems.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise GIS implementations.
- Knowledge of cloud-based GIS deployments and containerized environments is a plus.
