Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dialysis team. The Dialysis RN will provide specialized nursing care to patients receiving hemodialysis treatment.

The RN will assess patients before, during, and after dialysis treatments, administer prescribed medications, monitor vascular access, respond to changes in patient condition, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments before, during, and after hemodialysis treatments, including vital signs, weight, fluid status, and overall clinical condition.
- Initiate, monitor, and discontinue hemodialysis treatments according to physician orders, facility policies, and established dialysis protocols.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment and promptly identify and respond to complications such as hypotension, cramping, bleeding, chest pain, shortness of breath, or changes in level of consciousness.
- Assess and monitor vascular access, including AV fistulas, AV grafts, and central venous catheters, for proper function and signs of infection or complications.
- Administer prescribed medications during dialysis, including medications for anemia management and other ESRD-related conditions, according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Review laboratory results and communicate significant findings or changes in patient condition to the appropriate provider and interdisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatments, medications, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, including proper aseptic technique and dialysis-specific safety procedures.
- Provide patient and family education regarding dialysis treatment, vascular access care, fluid restrictions, renal diet, medication adherence, and management of kidney disease.
- Collaborate with nephrologists, dialysis technicians, dietitians, social workers, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
- Supervise and provide clinical guidance to Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and other assigned staff within the RN scope of practice.
- Respond appropriately to dialysis-related emergencies and initiate emergency interventions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, HIPAA requirements, CMS regulations, and applicable federal and state standards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and patient-centered dialysis environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous hemodialysis or nephrology nursing experience preferred.
- Experience caring for patients with CKD, ESRD, or other chronic medical conditions is preferred.
- Knowledge of hemodialysis principles, fluid and electrolyte management, vascular access care, and infection prevention practices is highly desirable.
- Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to dialysis-related complications and emergencies.
- Strong medication administration, patient assessment, documentation, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with nephrologists, technicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, professional approach to patient care.
- Ability to manage multiple patients and priorities while maintaining attention to safety and treatment accuracy.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and dialysis documentation systems is preferred.
