Job Summary:
The Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for managing and overseeing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all payroll processes. This role serves as a functional expert supporting Payroll Leads and stakeholders, with responsibilities spanning pre-payroll, payroll processing, and post-payroll activities. The SME plays a critical role in ensuring payroll integrity, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll activities across pre-payroll, payroll processing, and post-payroll stages
- Validate payroll inputs including employee data, time records, earnings, and deductions to ensure accuracy
- Execute and review payroll calculations, ensuring compliance with tax laws and statutory requirements
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Time and Attendance teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure data integrity
- Support payroll system processing, troubleshooting, and enhancements
- Ensure timely salary disbursement, statutory filings, and payroll reporting
- Handle employee payroll queries and support audit and compliance requirements
- Identify process improvement opportunities and drive standardization and efficiency
Requirements:
- 5 or more years of experience in payroll operations with strong end-to-end process knowledge
- Proven expertise in pre-payroll, payroll processing, and post-payroll activities
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and statutory compliance
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar platforms
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage large data sets with accuracy and confidentiality
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience working in multi-country or complex payroll environments is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
