Summary Description
Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Essential Duties
1. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
2. Programs machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, offsets, and compensation; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry, proving part programs.
3. Sets up machines by installing and adjusting collets, bushings and wheels, indicating tools truing, qualifiers and compensating wheel packs as required.
4. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
5. Maintains specifications by observing grinding operations; taking measurements with calipers, micrometers and optical comparators; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
6. Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
7. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
8. Maintains continuity among work shifts by communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
9. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
10. Understands and complies with ISO procedures.
11. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
12. Strives to help achieve organization goals by accepting ownership of new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
13. Performs other duties as required.
