Position Overview
The Kitchen Lead / Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the kitchen and ensuring that food is prepared safely, consistently, and efficiently. This position serves as a leader for the kitchen team and is responsible for maintaining kitchen standards, directing staff, and addressing issues as they arise. The Kitchen Lead / Supervisor is expected to lead by example, maintain a professional attitude, and hold kitchen employees accountable to company standards. This position works closely with the General Manager and other members of management to ensure smooth restaurant operations.
60-Day Trial Period
The Kitchen Lead / Supervisor position will begin with a 60-day trial period before the promotion is made permanent. This trial period is designed to determine whether the candidate has the leadership skills, work ethic, reliability, and dedication required to successfully lead the kitchen.
During the 60-day trial, your performance will be closely evaluated and critiqued. We will hold you to a high standard and will be honest and direct about areas where improvement is needed. This position comes with increased responsibility and expectations, and being a strong cook alone does not necessarily make someone a strong leader.
If you are not comfortable with accountability, giving direction, addressing problems, holding others responsible, or being held to a higher standard yourself, this may not be the position for you.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is willing to work hard, take initiative, lead by example, and dedicate themselves to the success of the kitchen. We are looking for someone who can step up, take ownership, and earn the trust of the team and management.
At the end of the 60-day trial period, management will determine whether the employee is ready to officially assume the Kitchen Lead / Supervisor position.
If management determines that the employee is not ready for the position, they may return to their previous position as a Cook or Cook Assistant, provided they remain in good standing with the company.
Planned Training Schedule
- Days 1–30: Scheduled training and assisting on the cook line
- Days 31–60: Scheduled training while working independently as a cook
- After 60 Days: A formal evaluation will be conducted to determine the next steps based on what is in the best interest of the restaurant and kitchen team.
Our Goal
The goal of the trial period is not to set anyone up for failure. It is to ensure that the person placed in this position is truly prepared to handle the responsibility that comes with being a Kitchen Lead / Supervisor.
Our ultimate goal is to develop someone who wants a long-term career with us and is looking for a place to grow, build their skills, and call home. We want this position to be the first step toward greater responsibility and leadership within our kitchen.
For the right person, there is an opportunity to grow from Kitchen Lead / Supervisor into a Cookline Manager and continue taking on additional responsibilities as they prove themselves.
We are looking for someone who is willing to put in the work, learn, accept criticism, lead by example, and grow with the restaurant. This position is not simply about receiving a promotion—it is about earning the opportunity to build a future with our team.
