Job Summary
This position is for a valued Customer Service and Agency Support Specialist for our Sumner Insurance office. An ideal candidate will have aspirations to learn and grow into an eventual Office Manager, however a reliable, and capable support role is also valued long term.
We are a mid-sized, local, family-owned, 20 years established and stable insurance agency located in downtown Sumner WA. We are warm, tight-knit, friendly and professional yet casual.
Our office is located in the heart of downtown Sumner on Main Street, right next to the best coffee shops and restaurants, and within easy walking distance of almost everything for lunch, commuting, and a quick sun / walk break.
Full-time Salary: $50,000.00 to $60,000.00 per year + Bonuses depending on experience/contribution. This role has strong advancement opportunities as you grow your skills and ability to serve clients and grow our business in different service areas.
Base hours are 8am to 5pm with some flexibility for hours and an earlier or later start for the right candidate. We are hiring for a long-term team member, who wants a place to grow some roots, experience, skills, and stability.
Work from home options available: Once trained, and with an established track record, our ideal team member will have the option to split time working from home and the office.
The role consists of supporting our local agents and our established customers as they reach out to us for help with questions, onboarding, setup, simple billing, and servicing with their Auto, Home, or Business insurance coverages.
This is NOT a sales position, it's not some hard core "life sales" gig, nor is it a multi-level "opportunity" (Those bait and switch ads annoy us too!)
Yes, everyone is responsible for helping grow our business, however it should come through servicing, supporting, and follow-up when a client has a gap or a need, not from cold calling and selling. This is a support position, we need someone who likes to help people and solve problems, not a salesperson.
Licensing: In insurance we are required to obtain a "Property & Casualty" license to service and make changes to client's insurance policies. So, ideally you will already have your property and casualty insurance license. However, if you do not, it's fairly easy to obtain, and we pay for the training, so if you are serious, don't let that stop you because it can be done online in a matter of a couple weeks part time, and it's flexible.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES NEEDED
- Must be able to type 50-80 WPM without having to look at the keyboard. We type notes and navigate different systems while talking to clients, so this unfortunately isn't negotiable.
- Must be long term vs short term. Insurance isn't difficult, but it does take time to learn the terminology, strategies, and systems. We invest heavily in your training--and our client's appreciate stability--some have been with us for 20+ years.
- Comfortable studying & learning outside your existing knowledge base and have the confidence in yourself to learn and grow. Insurance terms, customer management software, processes, using computers, and helping clients on the phone, email, and text--it's all part of the job and it just takes a little time and confidence to learn.
- Must enjoy learning, serving people, and not be "tech phobic" or extremely anxious about learning, reading, or "tests". (For some it's been a long time since they had to learn, study, and get tested in school, therefore they might be too anxious and simply can't enjoy themselves) We find the people who do well have faith in themselves, are quick thinkers, are driven to learn, are organized, and enjoy helping others, so know yourself.
- Have established list driven organization, time management, scheduling, prioritization, and follow up skills. This is critical, seriously, this job isn't hard once you learn it, but you can't wing it in your head and fly by with sticky notes and miscellaneous papers, you must be a to-do list person. (IYKYK)
- Highly accountable by nature... We applaud the semi-obsessive, productive, task driven person who enjoys challenging themselves with their need to complete their tasks and goals on time, while still being able to laugh at themselves and with others!
- If you and your friends laugh at your need to take charge, organize, follow up, and completion skills, then you are probably a great fit!
- If you motivate you more than having to be motivated by someone else. (Task ninjas have an innate need to finish things) And the thought of leaving something 90% complete is humorously painful, then you are probably a great fit.
- Lastly, you enjoy laughing with your coworkers and can laugh at yourself. We all make mistakes, so eventually we just have to laugh at ourselves and not take ourselves THAT seriously. This is a key to a supportive office team environment.
Well, if you're still reading this, and if you feel you meet the requirements and culture above, then please apply, if not, thank you for your time!
