Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures that assist physicians and healthcare providers in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The MLT performs laboratory testing on blood, body fluids, and other patient specimens using manual and automated laboratory equipment while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and patient safety.
The Medical Laboratory Technician works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate laboratory results. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine and moderately complex laboratory testing according to established laboratory procedures.
- Perform testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Immunology, and Blood Bank as assigned.
- Collect, receive, verify, process, and prepare patient specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure proper specimen identification, handling, transportation, storage, and disposal.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Perform and document quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and proficiency testing.
- Verify the accuracy of laboratory results before reporting.
- Recognize abnormal or critical laboratory values and promptly notify the appropriate healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Monitor laboratory inventory and notify management when supplies or reagents need replenishment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Follow all infection prevention, biosafety, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and laboratory inspections.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new laboratory personnel as assigned.
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or another related science field is required.
Licensure/Certification
- Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification through ASCP, AMT, or another nationally recognized certifying organization is preferred or required in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory preferred.
- New graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required for specimen handling and equipment operation.
- Ability to distinguish colors and read laboratory instruments accurately.
- Ability to safely work with blood, body fluids, chemicals, and potentially infectious materials while following OSHA safety standards.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
