Inventory Specialist

Job Overview:
We are seeking an Inventory Specialist to support a large utility organization's fleet operations. This role is responsible for identifying, researching, sourcing, receiving, storing, issuing, and tracking automotive parts, materials, tools, and equipment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with automotive parts, fleet inventory, warehouse operations, parts sourcing, vendor coordination, and inventory systems. This position also serves as a local parts runner, picking up orders from vendors and suppliers and delivering parts or vehicles as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify OEM and aftermarket automotive and equipment parts using VINs, serial numbers, electronic parts catalogs, and other resources.
- Support parts and material needs for vehicles and equipment ranging from small utility vehicles to construction equipment, line trucks, and aerial equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding parts availability, orders, returns, credits, warranties, and core returns.
- Monitor and track parts and material orders and resolve delays, discrepancies, and other order issues.
- Receive, verify, organize, label, and store incoming parts and materials.
- Compare shipments against purchase orders and document quantities, shortages, and discrepancies.
- Perform data entry, inventory tracking, and parts/material research.
- Serve as a parts runner, picking up merchandise from local warehouses, manufacturers, vendors, and retail locations.
- Pick up and deliver vehicles to and from internal customers and external vendors when needed.
- Assist with periodic inventory activities at maintenance locations throughout the service area.
- Communicate professionally with mechanics, fleet personnel, vendors, customers, and other stakeholders by phone, email, and in person.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory, ordering, and parts-management processes.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive warehouse operations, fleet parts, or a closely related environment.
- Experience identifying and sourcing OEM and aftermarket parts.
- Experience using VINs, serial numbers, or electronic parts catalogs to research parts.
- Experience with inventory systems, stockroom operations, order tracking, and vendor coordination.
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance practices and automotive/equipment parts.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting a fleet maintenance organization.
- Experience in an automotive or heavy-duty truck dealership.
- Experience with construction, agricultural, utility, or municipal fleet equipment.
- Direct experience supporting mechanics or maintenance personnel.
- Experience with an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or inventory management system.
- Experience with Asset Suite is a plus.
Important Position Information:
This position focuses on inventory, parts coordination, research, and customer support. It is not a traditional material-handler or skilled-trades position.
The role does not require operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment, working around high-voltage equipment, working on scaffolding or motorized buckets, or performing other craft/material-handler duties.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
