Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate veterinary professional to join our seasoned ophthalmology team. The position will focus on both reception work (client services) and veterinary assistance. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with both clients and their animals. The individual should have a experience working with computers and multi-line phones, be familiar with technical veterinary skills (including holding animals), have experience with specialty veterinary care, and client communication. This role involves working closely with veterinary ophthalmologists and staff to ensure the health and well-being of our patients. Compensation will depend upon the candidate's experience and credentials. We also offer quarterly bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Answer phone calls and greet clients
- Administrative work such as email, texting, faxing, filing, and other such organizational work
- Assist clients with filling out paperwork, checking out clients
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures.
- Assist in sample collection for laboratory testing, IV catheter placement, patient medication administration
- Take histories from and communicate with clients regarding ophthalmic medical care.
- Prepare and dispense prescription medications
- Prepare and maintain accurate medical records for each client and patient.
- Ensure cleanliness of the clinic, including examination rooms, kennels, and surgical areas.
- Handle animals safely using appropriate restraint techniques.
- Understand how to work with electronic medical records and other common software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Skills
The successful candidate should possess the following skills:
- Detail-oriented and passionate work ethic
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, ophthalmology specific terminology knowledge is a plus
- Experience with client communication
- Current or interest in developing veterinary handling and technical skills
- Equine and/or exotic experience is beneficial but not required.
- Ability to work with common computer software such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Excel; ability to work with electronic medical records; possess basic knowledge regarding email, faxing, text messaging, uploading and downloading files.
