Final level (Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Lead) will be determined based on experience and expertise. Level of responsibility, title, and compensation will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Job Summary
As part of Orion Engineers + Constructors Engineering Services Department, the Process Engineer supports the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of process systems across oil and gas, chemicals, and related industrial facilities. This role is responsible for process design, simulation, equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and process safety evaluations, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams from early concept development through detailed engineering and implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and update process design deliverables, including heat and material balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Perform process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ProMax, or equivalent software to support design, debottlenecking, and optimization studies.

Conduct hydraulic calculations and line sizing for liquid, gas, and multiphase piping systems.

Size and specify process equipment (pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, compressors, control valves) and prepare associated process datasheets.

Support relief system and flare design, including identification of relief scenarios, calculation of relief loads, and sizing of Pressure Safety Valves (PSVs) in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Participate in process safety activities (HAZOP, PHA, SIL reviews) and incorporate recommendations into process and instrumentation designs.

Prepare and review technical documentation, including design reports, calculations, datasheets, and engineering memoranda.

Coordinate with piping, mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, and project management teams to ensure alignment of process design with overall project objectives.

Review and comment on vendor documentation and package designs to confirm consistency with process requirements and project specifications.

Provide technical support for commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of process systems, as needed.

Contribute process input to project planning activities, including scope definition, estimating, and schedule development.

Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and clients, presenting technical findings and recommendations in a concise, actionable manner.

Perform other related duties as assigned to support project and departmental objectives.
Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Approximately 5 to 20+ years of relevant process engineering experience in oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, refining, or related industries.

Hands on experience with process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ProMax, or similar tools.

Strong understanding of process design fundamentals, fluid flow, heat transfer, and equipment sizing.

Demonstrated experience generating and working with PFDs, P&IDs, and process datasheets.

Familiarity with industry standards and codes applicable to process and relief system design.

Experience with relief system analysis and flare system evaluation.

Prior involvement in HAZOP/PHA studies and process safety assessments.

Proven track record of leading work packages, mentoring engineers, and interfacing with clients, consistent with Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Lead Process Engineer levels.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to identify and solve complex problems, using both creative and analytical approaches.

Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

Valid driver’s license and suitable driving record that meets company driver requirements, with the ability to obtain a TWIC card if required.

Ability to work effectively in a multi discipline, fast paced environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

- Work assignment inside an operating plant which requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs.
- Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations.
- Must be able to attend job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility in a hot climate.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
