Loupe Production Technician — Precision Optical Assembly
HERO LOUPES LLC | [Elk Grove, CA] | Full-time | $17 to $20/hour Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (lunch 12:00–1:00 PM) | No nights, no weekends, no on-call
About the Work
HERO LOUPES builds precision dental and surgical loupes — the magnification systems dentists and surgeons wear every working day. We're hiring a Loupe Production Technician to do the most important job in the building: installing the optics.
This is bench work. You'll prepare and clean lenses, cement optical elements into housings, assemble and calibrate complete loupe units, and mount them to eyewear frames per each customer's measurements. You'll work under magnification with illumination, in gloves, at your own station.
If you like focused, hands-on work and don't want a customer-facing job, this is a good fit. There's minimal phone time and no front-desk duty. The satisfaction here comes from the craft — building something correctly, consistently, that a clinician will depend on for years.
No loupe experience required. We train. What we can't train is patience and a steady hand.
What You'll Do
- Prepare, clean, and inspect lenses so every surface is free of dust, debris, and fingerprints
- Install and cement optical elements into loupe housings following our documented assembly process
- Assemble complete units, including prism and lens stack
- Calibrate and mount finished loupes to eyewear frames per customer specs (declination angle, working distance, PD)
- Inspect your own work for clarity and alignment — and reject anything that doesn't meet standard
- Repair and service loupes returned by customers
- Package completed orders and update production status in our system so customers know where their order stands
- Track daily output and run weekly inventory counts on lenses and metal components
- Keep your bench clean, organized, and dust-controlled, and store away materials not in use
You may also be cross-trained to help elsewhere — joining calibration video calls with clients, running CNC eyewear prep, or supporting shipping during busy stretches. We'll teach you.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Excellent manual dexterity and fine motor control — precise, repetitive handwork
- Real attention to detail, including the willingness to scrap your own work when it isn't right
- Good near vision and color perception (glasses or contacts are fine)
- Ability to follow written procedures exactly as documented
- Reliable and punctual
- Basic computer skills for logging production status and daily counts
Nice to have (not required)
- Optical assembly, optical/ophthalmic lab, dental lab, or medical device assembly experience
- Jewelry making, watchmaking, electronics assembly, or any precision bench trade
- Experience with adhesives, UV or optical cements, and cure processes
- Familiarity with CNC equipment
- Inventory or cycle counting experience
Physical Requirements
Seated bench work for extended periods. Sustained close-focus visual work under magnification. Repetitive hand and finger motion. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
