Description:
To assist the ESL teaching staff in the instruction of ELD students.
Job Summary:

Assist ESL teacher with implementation of lesson plans for group and/or individual instruction:
-
One-on-one instruction
-
Reading to students
-
Listening to students read
-
Monitoring student completion of assignments
-
Working with small groups in order to reinforce taught skills
-
Working with individual and/or small groups to review taught material for remediation/extension of instruction
-
Assisting students in the completion of assignments during the school day
-
Provide more immediate feedback to students
-
Assist in incorporating adaptive strategies in the classroom to meet individual student learning styles
-
Monitor and adjust individual student as well as classroom behavior as it is appropriate
-
Act as liaison between the regular and ESL teacher to provide immediate feedback relative to student performances.

Assist the teacher in the following manner:
-
Developing learning centers and learning activity packets
-
Correcting papers
-
Filing materials
-
Duplicating and distributing materials to students
-
Translating materials on Google Docs using the software Google Translate.
-
Report to whatever building requires the most ESL or ELD support.

Updating bulletin boards
-
Perform such other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee
Qualifications:
-
Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
-
Bi-lingual Preferred
-
Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
-
Maturity and ability to deal effectively with students and staff.
-
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of assigned responsibilities.
-
Understands the importance of and can practice confidentiality.
-
Demonstrates knowledge of basic academic skills (reading, math, writing, spelling, and appropriate language usage).

Comfortable with following specific rules and regulations as they apply to the discipline procedures of the building.

Physical stamina necessary for occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.

Receipt of current, favorable clearances including: Pennsylvania State Criminal History (Act 34), Federal Criminal History (FBI Fingerprinting - Act 114), Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Act 151), and Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Disclosures (Act 168).
Hours and Compensation:
Part Time 5 hours per day / 180 days per year
Minimum Starting Salary $13.25 per hour (hourly rate established based on years of experience in this field)
