Senior Project Manager – Healthcare Construction
Position Overview
The Senior Project Manager – Healthcare Construction is responsible for leading multiple healthcare construction projects from preconstruction through project completion. This role requires extensive experience managing projects in active healthcare environments, including phased construction, regulatory compliance, and patient safety considerations.
The ideal candidate holds an ASHE certification (or equivalent healthcare-focused training) and has a proven track record of successfully delivering complex healthcare projects on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders and works collaboratively with owners, architects, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple healthcare construction projects through preconstruction and all phases of construction.
- Collaborate with company leadership, owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure successful project delivery.
- Prepare, review, and submit project proposals, cost estimates, budgets, construction documents, and specifications.
- Manage project scope changes, including estimating, pricing, and negotiating change orders.
- Obtain and coordinate required permits, including building, erosion control, and dewatering permits.
- Partner closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Project Management Assistants, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure efficient project execution.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to clients, leadership, and project teams.
- Resolve project issues and disputes involving owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Prepare project status reports and participate in construction meetings and client updates.
- Review and approve invoices, submit pay applications, process job cost adjustments, and issue purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Conduct quarterly job cost forecasting and maintain project financial performance.
- Support estimating and budgeting efforts for negotiated and conceptual projects.
- Mentor, coach, and provide leadership to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other project staff.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development and marketing initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety, quality, and healthcare construction standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent preferred).
- ASHE certification or equivalent healthcare construction education preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of construction management experience, with significant experience in healthcare construction.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple complex healthcare construction projects simultaneously.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of healthcare construction practices, regulations, and infection prevention requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes.
- Strong knowledge of preconstruction services, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and project controls.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
- Experience mentoring and developing Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field personnel.
- Strong financial management skills, including forecasting, cost control, and budget management.
- Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
