Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Medical Assistant to support our internal medicine and geriatric practice.
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform phlebotomy and manage all aspects of in-office laboratory specimen collection and handling, including proper labeling, processing, storage, and coordination in accordance with Quest and LabCorp protocols.
In addition to phlebotomy, this role includes escorting patients into exam rooms, obtaining vital signs, assisting the physician and nurse practitioner during visits, performing EKGs and injections (if trained), preparing next-day charts, assisting with telemedicine visits, and maintaining efficient patient flow from intake to checkout. The candidate will also provide front desk support when needed and contribute to a professional, patient-centered clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary Clinical Responsibility – Phlebotomy
- Perform in-office blood draws safely and efficiently
- Ensure proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, and storage
- Follow Quest and LabCorp protocols for specimen collection and transport
- Perform urine collection and other point-of-care testing as needed
- Maintain lab logs and ensure accurate requisition completion
Clinical Duties
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for the visit
- Obtain and document vital signs, medication lists, allergies, and chief complaint
- Assist the physician and nurse practitioner during exams and procedures
- Perform and document EKGs
- Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections as directed (if trained and approved)
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
- Review and reconcile prior visits, hospital notes, or external labs when needed
Physician Support & Workflow
- Prepare and pre-review next-day patient charts (labs, imaging, prior notes, preventive care gaps)
- Review upcoming schedules with the physician to ensure visit readiness and clinical efficiency
- Assist the physician with telemedicine visits, including patient setup, documentation support, order coordination, and follow-up scheduling
Patient Flow & Care Coordination
- Ensure smooth patient flow between check-in, exam room, and checkout
- Schedule follow-up visits, specialist referrals, and procedures per provider instructions
- Provide after-visit summaries and patient education materials as directed
- Help coordinate lab orders, imaging studies, and prior authorizations
Documentation & Coding Support
- Accurately document clinical data in the EMR
- Support provider with ICD-10 coding accuracy and documentation clarity
- Prepare and track lab requisitions and diagnostic forms
Operations & Inventory
- Assist in inventory control
- Monitor clinical supply levels and maintain appropriate par levels
- Coordinate clinical supply ordering to ensure uninterrupted patient care
Front Desk Support (as needed)
- Answer phones and schedule appointments
- Check patients in and out using EMR and insurance systems
- Collect co-pays and verify insurance eligibility
- Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor with patients and visitors
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Phlebotomy experience required (must be confident performing routine blood draws independently)
- EKG experience required
- Competence in Quest and LabCorp specimen handling protocols required
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding a plus
- Certification preferred (CMA, CCMA, RMA) or comparable clinical competency required
- Experience with electronic health records (EMR), especially PrognoCIS, a plus
- Familiarity with RingCentral or similar communication systems a plus
- Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical & Professional Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to assist with patient mobility and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced clinical setting
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, office staff, and patients
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background screening, credential verification, and drug testing consistent with state and federal requirements

Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
